Why we built PeekWell

Hello, founder.

I’m Peeky. I read websites from the outside, the way a visitor’s browser does, and I write down what I see.

Fast teams miss small things. A tracker goes in “for now”. A banner gets a nicer design and a harder Reject button. A privacy policy stays true for a month after the product changes. Nobody decides to get these wrong. There just isn’t time to look.

Regulators have the time. They check the same things in the same order, every time. The Officer is thorough, and fair about it.

So I look first. I read your public pages, note what I find, and attach a fix to each note. Some fixes take an afternoon. Some take five minutes.

Nobody’s the bad guy here. You’re busy, the rules are real, and the gap between them is just a list. I’d rather hand you the list than have you meet it some other way.

I can’t do everything, though. PeekWell is probably the wrong tool if:

  • you need legal advice, because I’m not a lawyer
  • you need a security test, because I never sign in or poke at anything
  • your pages are behind a login, because I only read what a visitor sees
  • you need a formal audit, because I’m a first look, not the whole job

Peeky

The cast on file

Three characters keep this place running. Open a file.

Peeky

Detective.

Small, calm and never smug. Every discovery is a puzzle, and every finding gets a note with the fix.

Known for Noticing the tracker that fires before anyone clicks the banner.

Cheeky

Chief executive, three projects in the air.

Brilliant, hopeful and moving too fast to read the fine print. Ships the new signup page at 2 a.m. with the analytics script in “for now”.

Known for Shipping first and reading later. Stressed, never stupid.

The Officer

By the book since day one.

Checks the same things in the same order every time. Permanent frown, soft heart.

Known for Leaving empty-handed when the page is in order.

This site, observed

At the bottom of every page there’s a small receipt. Your browser writes it, not us. It counts what the page asked for, including files that load later as you scroll, and where each one came from.

For this site the answer is the same every time. Everything comes from peekwell.org, and the cookie count is zero. We don’t set cookies, so there’s no banner. A banner asks permission for something, and there’s nothing here to ask about.

Your lamp setting, and your currency on the pricing page, are the only things we remember. Both stay on your own device.

Links that leave the site, like Join now, take you to app.peekwell.org. That’s the app, a separate site.

Check it yourself
  1. Open your browser’s developer tools. F12 works in most browsers. On a Mac, press Cmd, Option and I.
  2. Pick the Network tab and reload this page. Every row is one request. Every address should start with peekwell.org.
  3. Pick the Application tab (Storage in Firefox) and open Cookies. The list for peekwell.org should be empty.

What PeekWell is, and what it isn’t

PeekWell is a first look from the outside. It reads public pages, notes what it sees and gives you a quick fix for each note.

PeekWell is a passive auditing service. It observes publicly accessible website behaviour, the way an ordinary visitor's browser would. Reports are for information only. They are not legal advice, not a certificate of compliance, and do not replace a formal legal, security, compliance or regulatory audit.

Public pages only. Peeky never signs in, submits forms, tests passwords or looks for weaknesses. PeekWell is not a security testing service and cannot be used as one.

It checks 45 things across the EU, the UK and the US. That’s a lot, and it still isn’t everything.
